Break-ins happen. It doesn’t matter where you live, your home could be broken into. It’s important to think like a burglar when figuring out the best way to protect yourself. Here are 3 things that burglars know that all homeowners need to know too.

1 – Choose The Home Without The Home Alarm Over The One With

Burglars don’t want to get caught. Shocking right? This obvious statement is true though, as homes with alarm systems are three times less likely to have break-ins than those without.¬†Burglars like to target homes without alarm systems as they’ll have more time inside and less likelihood of getting apprehended by the police. Because of this, an alarm system proves to be a fantastic deterrent. Regardless of the size of your home, make sure you have a home alarm system.

2 – Empty Home = Prime Time For Burglars

A burglar typically wants to avoid confrontation. Because of this they will more often target homes that are empty. It’s important that we understand this. To combat this fact, it’s important to make it seem as if you’re home when you’re not. Use timers on your lights inside the home, and don’t leave your blinds open when you’re away for long periods of time. Plus if you are on vacation, make sure mail doesn’t pile up outside your house and don’t leave garbage bins unattended on the street. Make it seem like someone is home whenever possible. This way a burglar will move on to the next home, as opposed to targeting yours.

3 – All The Good Stuff Is In The Master Bedroom

Bet you have most of your valuables in your master bedroom? Most people do. Burglars know this, and when they do break into a home, that’s the first place they’re heading. Jewellery, cash, electronics… most of them are hidden in the master bedroom.

Make sure to place your valuables elsewhere. Use a safe if possible. By thinking like a burglar you’ll minimize damage if there is a potential break-in.
