But if you have your cell phone, internet, home phone, cable tv and now your home security, if they ever provide lackluster service (which is often the case) too bad, since it’s such a pain to replace all services elsewhere.
Cable companies provide notoriously bad customer service. Check reviews online and you’ll see negative testimonial after negative testimonial. Long wait times and ongoing frustration is common when dealing with cable companies.
An issue with cable companies is security is the thing they prioritize least as they have their hands in so many other things. Take Rogers for example. Rogers Communications has so many verticals. Rogers has radio stations, TV stations, provide internet, home phones, cell phones, magazines, cable TV, has sports teams (Blue Jays, Maple Leafs, Raptors), has arenas… and they provide smart home monitoring. If a customer has an issue do you think you can get the CEO of Rogers on the phone to help solve their concern? I highly doubt it. Same goes for Comcast. Xfinity’s smart home solution is just another service – one of the lowest things on their totem pole.
And last, cable companies are notorious for raising prices. Whether you’re under contract or not, cable companies often raise their customer’s prices. Usually, this is once a year, around a dollar or two higher. This adds up over time. Especially if you’re locked into a contract, you’re stuck paying these prices regardless.
When choosing a home alarm system, go with a company that solely focuses on security. It should be priority one. The only thing the company does. Security is incredibly important and shouldn’t be regarded as an afterthought. Pick a company that doesn’t have a home alarm contract. And lastly look for the best value and the lowest price.

Similar to other cable companies, the thought is that Comcast is more focused on running a call center than providing quality customer service. Often in extremely large companies, the importance of focusing on the customer’s true needs gets lost in the corporate shuffle. Instead of having happy customers, large cable companies are too busy trying to sell additional services and locking customers into long contracts.

A dentist is an expert in teeth, and as educated on your mouth as they may be, thinking they can also diagnose your vision issues is short-sighted. Experts exist for a reason, and you know that a dentist can help you fix your cavities, an optometrist can prescribe you glasses, and their expertise never intersects.
Armed with this knowledge, it is curious that people are willing to trust the safety of their family to a company that does not specialize in home security. Rogers, AT&T and Comcast have all entered the home security market, yet none of them are known primarily for security. Those companies and the brands attached to them are known as cable or telephone providers. This is problematic for several reasons.
First, as a deterrent, a telecom has no value. Having an AT&T lawn sign is good advertising for the company, but won’t prevent a break-in from a burglar.

When looking for home security, stick with a company that focuses solely on security and not on a little bit of everything. Choose a company that has a vested interest in your family’s safety and not just on padding their company’s bottom line through incessant bundling. And above all else, if an optometrist comes at you with a dental drill, run! Keep your loved ones safe with real security experts.

Yes, folks, I know what you’re thinking, I can read minds. The truth is that every single big box company will try and squeeze every penny out of you knowing well enough that you actually don’t need all that equipment.
But how is that possible? How can I possible secure my home if I don’t have a peripheral covering ever entrance point? The answer to that question is simple; you can protect your home best through the use of motion detectors.
A motion detector covers a lot more ground than a door contact.
Let’s break this down for all of you. If you put a contact on your window and someone cuts the glass and enters, the contact will never go off because the seal will not have been broken. You run the risk of these peripherals on the windows and doors being easily by-passed. Your alarm company will then say, get a glass break detector, so that way if the glass is broken the detector will sound. Well, guess, a burglar could just duct take the window, smash it, then take it off, and the glass break detector won’t pick up a thing!
There is no way to bypass a motion detector!
If you have a motion detector once the intruder works his/her way through the home they are going to be passing through an area that has a high traffic volume. This is where a motion detector will be the most useful. The intruder has nowhere to go, once they enter into that area the alarm is going to sound. If you are smart enough to find a company that offers two-way voice monitoring well than that’s even better because that will prompt automatically.
Adding all that equipment can be very costly as well, think about how many doors and windows you have in your house. It adds up, especially when you have to start replacing batteries for all those sensors. Typically a motion detector can cover an area of 150 feet, this is a very large range so one maybe two motions detectors at most may be needed. I would suggest that if you really want a door contact, throw one on your back door and your front door.
When a company starts telling you that you should be putting contacts on your windows upstairs that should trigger a red flag. Think about it for a second, how are the intruders going to get into your windows from upstairs? Do you really think they are going to get a ladder and try to break in that way? I really hope you don’t think that could be an option. Intruders will always try and enter into your home from the bottom floor so what’s the point in spending all that money for the upstairs because they will never go off. You want to make sure you have the motion detector covering the bottom floor so if the intruder tries to go anywhere in the house including upstairs the motion detector will be tripped and the live two-voice monitoring will come on. By that time the intruder will know he doesn’t have any time to spare so they will try and get out as fast as possible.
So when you start calling these big companies like Rogers Smart Home Monitoring, ADT, Protectron, CPI, Comcast Xfinity and Vivint don’t let them bully you around and tell you that you need all this equipment. Better yet, think protection and find a company that truly knows something about securing homes and call them, do your research!
